Drexel Suicide: Second Student Death From Jumping at Drexel University’s The Summit

Drexel University Community Mourns After Student Dies in Apparent Suicide

PHILADELPHIA — The Drexel University community is mourning after a student died Sunday afternoon in an apparent suicide at The Summit at University City, an affiliated student housing complex near campus.

The incident was reported shortly after 3 p.m. at the 24-story residential tower at 3400 Lancaster Avenue.

According to information provided by Drexel University to students, a male student died after an apparent fall from the building. Emergency responders were called to the scene, and the student was pronounced dead.

The circumstances surrounding the death remain under investigation.

University Offers Support

Drexel University notified students following the tragedy and acknowledged that the death could have a significant emotional impact on the university community.

The university said counseling and support services would be available to students who need assistance coping with the loss.

Students who witnessed the incident or were affected by the response may be experiencing shock, grief or distress. University officials are encouraging students to reach out for support and look after one another.

Previous Death Raises Questions

The incident has also drawn attention to a previous death at the university’s affiliated housing. In 2020, Vivek Subramani, a medical student, was found deceased in an incident that was also reported as an apparent fall.

However, the circumstances of the two deaths are separate, and authorities have not indicated any connection between them.

For the Drexel community, Sunday’s tragedy represents another painful loss of a young life.

The student’s identity has not been publicly released, and additional details are expected to remain limited out of respect for the student’s family.

The thoughts of the Drexel community are with the student’s family, friends, classmates and everyone affected by this heartbreaking loss.
